About Us

Founded in 1988, South Dakota Gun Owners (SDGO) has successfully defeated virtually every attack on our gun rights for a generation.

As South Dakota’s largest “No Compromise” gun rights organization, SDGO is dedicated to restoring and preserving the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

We believe that both the South Dakota and U.S. Constitutions protect the right of all citizens to own and carry all types of firearms for any purpose except to commit a crime.

SDGO opposes all attempts to limit, restrict, delay or deny this God-given right to defend self, family, society and state.

Our strategy is simple: Don’t give an inch.

In this battle, we believe that compromise is unacceptable.

Rather than fighting to lose our rights as slowly as possible, SDGO holds our lawmakers accountable to the Law of the Constitution through grassroots constituent pressure.

Unlike the typical lobby, which hires highly paid lobbyists to speak for the members, SDGO works to inform and empower its membership to be involved in the legislative process.

SDGO enables thousands of individual citizens to be effective lobbyists right from their own homes. In fact, with our national affiliate, the National Association for Gun Rights, we have over 18,000 members in the state.

Every year, SDGO members are instrumental in defeating legislation which would further infringe upon your right to keep and bear arms.

Together, we have thwarted gun grabbers and their dangerous schemes multiple times.

If you are not already a member, we invite you to join SDGO in defending the right which defends all others.

South Dakota Gun Owners is an un-incorporated not-for-profit association,
